2016 Red Door

Red Door is a wine blended to take advantage of our best small lots that work together in the most rich and flavorful way, regardless of variety or appellation. In 2016, Cabernet Sauvignon from the Baker vineyard in Atlas Peak was back in harness, showing elegance and structure. Windy Flats vineyard again had intense flavors and Beau Terre provided the color and structure. Small lots of Petit Verdot and Malbec were useful together building depth and complexity. They have wonderful individuality that would be lost in a big blend, so the Red Door can give them a place to show off. It is still evolving, and we learn more about the durability of our blends every year, but great fruit and new oak work to build the Red Door into one of our best wines. The 2016 Red Door offers purity and finesse, with ample blue fruits, leafy herbs, and damp earth-like aromas and flavors. It has beautiful purity, is impeccably balanced, and has fine, polished tannins that frame the finish. Aged 16 months in 60% new French oak, it’s another wine that can be drunk today yet will keep for 15-20 years.
