2021 Double Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon

Double Barrel is a small blend that we make from our most serious lots of Cabernet Sauvignon. We unapologetically make this wine for collectors and do not expect it to reveal its intense charm and elegance for many years. The 2021 Double Barrel is made from our Baker Vineyard in the Atlas Peak appellation and from the Windy Flats Vineyard in the western cliffs of Wooden Valley. These 2 vineyards have different strengths and densities but always seem to work well together. Malbec and Petit Verdot broaden the focus and add intrigue and complexity. 100% new French oak adds balance and support to wines that are big enough to use the scaffolding. As the wine grows up with the oak, these beautiful barrels integrate into the wine’s structure until they play only a supporting role. The 2021 Double Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon is dark and mysterious with aromas of blackberry, black licorice, elderberry, and a hint of vanilla and caramel. The palate is concentrated and muscular with big elegant dark berry, espresso, and currant flavors. The wine needs time to relax a bit. It is now dark and very intense, with ripe tannic structure and savory dark chocolate and cassis flavors, but already showing balance and volume. Almost too rich and demanding, its impressive size is a bit intimidating, but not to collectors who recognize what this wine will do in the future.
