2022 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc
2022 was another drought year and the season started early. There were a few serious frosty nights, and some damage did occur, but we largely escaped the wipeouts experienced in some areas. A cooler summer progressed, and then the first hot spell occurred August 13 through August 23 and the pace began to pick up. By August 11, Windy Flats was hitting 23 Brix, so harvest was scheduled for August 15 and 16. The fruit at Stewart Ranch came in on August 18, and Watson took until September 10 to reach 23 Brix as the heat seemed to be repressing flavors and ripening kinetics. The Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc from Hill Family expresses freshness and bright fruit, with no perceptible oak character. The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc offers aromas of white peach, honeydew melon and lemongrass. The palate is bright and refreshing with mouthwatering acidity adding energy to the crisp finish.
