OUR VINEYARDS

OUR VINEYARDS

At Hill Family Estate, we grow over a dozen grape varieties across Napa Valley vineyards, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Albariño. Our vineyards span prestigious sub-appellations like Atlas Peak, Oak Knoll District, Carneros, American Canyon, and Yountville, CA. Each vineyard is selected for its ideal climate and soil to match the grape varietals planted. These sites supply the estate-grown fruit behind every wine we produce.

Explore Our Napa Vineyards

The Hill family began to select and plant their own Napa Valley vineyards in the 1980s, using their intimate knowledge of the multiple Napa Valley microclimates, soil variations and the many subtle growing factors which influence the characteristics of the grape and the resulting quality of wine. They planted Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Albariño, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc in the Carneros appellation.

Known for its clay soils and cool climate, the vineyards in Yountville and Carneros create perfect conditions to allow these varieties to develop their complex flavors. They planted Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon in the Oak Knoll district. They also planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah at 1,500 feet elevation near Atlas Peak; both areas with a perfect environment to develop the rich berry flavor and intense fruit color that make these red wines some of the best in the world.

We source only the best grapes from our family-owned Napa Valley vineyards to bring you memorable wines with character and distinction.

What grape varieties does Hill Family Estate grow?

Hill Family Estate grows over a dozen grape varieties across our Napa Valley vineyards. These include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Albariño, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Syrah, and more. Each varietal is planted in a location specifically selected for its microclimate, soil type, and elevation, ensuring the fruit reaches peak expression and balance for winemaking.

Where are your vineyards located in Napa Valley?

Our vineyard sites are spread throughout some of the most respected sub-appellations in Napa Valley. These include Atlas Peak, Oak Knoll District, Carneros, American Canyon, and Yountville, CA. Each location offers unique conditions, from mountain elevations to valley-floor fog influence, which allow us to grow both cool- and warm-climate varietals successfully.

What makes your Napa Valley vineyards unique?

Each of our vineyard sites is chosen with intention. Factors like sun exposure, slope, soil composition, wind patterns, and elevation are all considered before planting. This thoughtful site selection and small-lot farming approach lead to wines that are not only high in quality but also distinct in personality, expressing the characteristics of their growing site with authenticity.

Do you offer vineyard tours or tastings with a vineyard view?

Our Napa winery location provides a more scenic and relaxed setting, surrounded by vineyard views. We recommend booking your tasting experience in advance, especially during weekends and holidays.

Are Hill Family Estate wines made with estate-grown grapes?

Yes. Many of our wines are produced from estate-grown grapes harvested from our own family-owned vineyards in Napa Valley. This gives us full control over vineyard practices, quality, and sustainability, resulting in handcrafted wines that reflect the distinct terroir of each site.

Can I visit any of the vineyards listed on your website?

Our production vineyards are not open for public tours, but you can experience the wines from these vineyards at our Downtown Yountville tasting room or by appointment at our winery location in Napa where you are surrounded by scenic vineyards. During your visit, our team shares stories behind the vineyards and wines, giving guests an intimate understanding of where the fruit is grown.

What is the elevation range of your vineyards?

Our vineyards range in elevation from just 6 feet in Carneros, ideal for cool-climate whites like Albariño and Sauvignon Blanc, to 1,500 feet on Atlas Peak, where Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec thrive in rocky, volcanic soils. This wide elevation span allows us to craft a diverse selection of wines that reflect both valley and mountain terroirs.

Are your vineyards sustainably farmed?

Hill Family Estate practices Natural Farming, a process that is intended to duplicate the ways Mother Nature herself maintains and replenishes soil without using synthetic materials. Natural farming is primarily designed to foster soil health in the quest to eliminate materials and activities that harm the millions of tiny beneficial organisms that live in the soil. These organisms have a symbiotic relationship with the vines.  In a vineyard, these microorganisms help the vines take in necessary nutrients in exchange for the excess carbohydrates the vines produce during photosynthesis.
