We understand that there are countless choices to be made on your Napa Valley trip. Deciding where to taste wine on your vacation can be a daunting task. We would like to step in to help you with this decision.
The first question is whether to visit tasting rooms or wineries. While wineries often offer stunning vistas and the excitement of watching the process of winemaking (at least for the couple of months of the harvest), there are trade-offs. First, most wineries require reservations. If you value spontaneity on your trip, tasting rooms are more likely to take walk-in visitors. While a reservation is always recommended to secure your spot (especially if you have a larger group), it is not always necessary.
Second, tasting rooms offer convenience. A winery generally requires a drive, preferably with a hired driver or an Uber. Tasting rooms, however, are located conveniently close to everything else: restaurants, hotels, other tasting rooms. If you are staying in Yountville, the Hill Family Estate tasting room is within reasonable walking distance of all the hotels in town.
While we are exceptionally proud of our wines, which represent the culmination of Doug Hill’s expertise as a farmer and Alison Doran’s prowess as a winemaker, our hospitality should definitely put us at the top of your list.
When you walk through our doors into our light, airy and welcoming tasting room, your last name will become Hill.
Our focus is on your enjoyment. We always have a curated menu for your flight, but we are by no means bound to that. If you prefer white wines, red wines, Bordeaux-style wines, Burgundy-style wines or unusual grape varieties, we are happy to make substitutions and to tailor your experience to your palate.
If you are new to wine, we would love to initiate you into the wonderful world of the vine. We see guests at all levels of wine knowledge, from complete beginners to seasoned winemakers. We will provide the right experience for you to comfortably enjoy wine. Our hosts bring a variety of perspectives to the wine, rather than a cookie-cutter presentation.
We pride ourselves in using the glassware that will properly highlight that wine. Using the right glass with the right bottle allows the wine to have its moment. Big, bold wines deserve a glass big enough to allow the aromas to fill the headspace for your enjoyment. Pinot noir, with its intense olfactory impact, should be served in an appropriate glass. Visitors are always pleased with getting the right wine in the right glass.
From the moment you walk in the door to joining our wine club to your umpteenth visit, your experience at the Hill Family Estate tasting room is our focus.
We look forward to hosting you on your next visit to the Napa Valley.
